Memories are made of this
Disclaimer: One look at my bank account should be proof enough that I don’t own Twilight. I’m just borrowing Edward and Bella.
A/N: This is my first Twilight story. I hope you like it. It’s set after Eclipse, but before Breaking Dawn.
Chapter 1
Edward and Bella were lying in Bella’s bed enjoying the precious alone time while Charlie was sleeping down the hall. Edward had wrapped Bella in a thick wool blanket although Bella had reassured him that wasn’t necessary. It was July and despite the late hour it was still pretty warm, but Edward had insisted on the blanket.
“Are you sure you want to be turned during our honeymoon, Bella? You are still so young, there is no need to hurry,” Edward said.
Bella sighed. She had stopped counting how many times she had already had this discussion with Edward.
“Yes, I’m young, but I’m already older than you. I’ll be 19 next month and you’re forever 17.”
“Esme was three years older than Carlisle when she was turned and nobody notices the age gap. I am sure nobody would notice that you are physically older than me if you wait another year,” Edward argued.
“Why is it so important to you that I wait, Edward?! Do you hope I’ll forget your promise when you make me wait long enough?” Bella asked irritated.
Edward gave Bella his irresistible crooked smile. “Believe me, love, I know you will never forget something you are set on. I am just worried because there are so many things you will miss, so many human experiences you will never make.”
“Edward, you know there is only one human experience I don’t want to miss.” Bella answered and caressed Edward’s naked chest to accent her statement.
“I know that is what you want, love, and I promised I would try to give this to you. There are so many more experiences you will miss though. They might not seem important to you, but you might regret missing these experiences in a few decades,” Edward explained.
Bella looked at Edward and saw he was serious. This wasn’t an attempt to make her rethink the whole vampire thing; he only wanted her to make some experiences before he turned her.
“And which kind of experiences do you have in mind? Which experiences do you miss?” Bella asked curiously.
Edward smiled sadly and gently caressed Bella’s cheek. “I miss not having met you when I was still human. I miss the opportunity to take a walk on the beach with you on a sunny day without having to worry about somebody seeing us. I miss not being able to take you to dinner without people looking at us strangely, because I don’t eat anything. I miss the opportunity to travel the world with you and visit all the amazing sights. I would like to stand on the Eiffel Tower with you or visit the pyramids of Giza with you without having to wait for a rainy day. There are so many things I could do with you, if I were still human.”
“But I can’t do all these things with you and I don’t miss them. It’s easy for me to do without sight-seeing on a bright summer day as long as it means I can be with you and I don’t care if people look at me when you take me to dinner. I don’t see anyone but you when we are together anyways,” Bella argued.
“That is the point, love. You already miss so much because of me, but there are some things you don’t have to miss. You can go sight-seeing. We could go on a vacation together and you could take Angela or your Mum or whoever you want with you. You could go sight-seeing during the days and we could spend the evenings together. Are there no places you always wanted to see?” Edward asked.
Bella thought about the question for a moment. “I don’t really know. I’ve never thought about that. When Alice and I were in Italy, it occurred to me that I have never been out of the USA before. Maybe it would be nice to visit other countries, but I wouldn’t want you to sit alone in a hotel room and wait for me. I’d rather spend my days with you in Forks than anywhere else without you.”
“I am sure I would find a way to keep myself occupied and you will have all eternity to spend with me,” Edward answered gently.
Bella smiled. “That sounds good. The spending all eternity with you part, I mean. And for the human traveling part: I’ll think about it.”
Edward seemed pleased enough with her answer. “That is all I ask of you. I just want you to be completely sure that you tried everything you wanted to experience as a human. Is there anything else? What about food? Is there anything you want to taste, but never have? Or a day in the spa? Many girls love that and I doubt that a massage or a stay in the sauna would feel the same for a vampire.”
Bella thought about his words. Maybe she should really try some new things to eat before everything tasted like dirt. An evening with all her favorite foods shortly before Edward turned her wouldn’t be bad either. Bella had never been to the spa, but she was quite sure that she wouldn’t miss this experience. A massage sounded good though, at least if it were Edward’s hand pampering her…
“And you will give me everything I ask of you?”Bella asked hopefully.
“Everything. With the only exception that we stop with whatever you have in mind, if it gets too dangerous for you,” Edward promised.
Bella smiled. That sounded good. Maybe she could think of a few things that would get her nearer to the one human experience she really wanted. Hadn’t Edward told her that she was overestimating his self control?
“I’ll make a list,” Bella announced. “I still want to be turned during the honeymoon though, so we will have a full schedule during the next weeks.”
